December brings us the darkest day of the year and Top Ten lists. Coincidence? I think not. Top Ten lists bring light and joy into the hearts of seasonal affective disordered Grinches. So here are a few of my favorites . . . a Top Ten Top Ten?
- Fug Girls: Ten Things We Learned From Celeb Fashion in 2008 - I love Go Fug Yourself. I love the Fug Girls' coverage of New York Fashion Week for New York Magazine. You can tell I've been reading my GFY because my writing here on the blog becomes much more entertaining and witty.
- Artforum's Best of 2008 issue.
- Marisa Nakasone of the SF Art Examiner adeptly compiled highlights from New York Magazine's survey of the best (and worst) things that happened in Art and Culture in 2008.
- Pitchfork Media's 100 Best Tracks of 2008.
- Roger Ebert's best films of 2008.
- Stephen King's 10 Best Movies of 2008.
- Rotten Tomatoes' The 10 Best Movies for each of the Last 10 Years.
- The New York Times Book Review's The 10 Best Books of 2008.
- The New York Times Book Reviews' slideshow of the best illustrated children's books of 2008, not to be confused with . . .
- The New York Times Books Reviews' Notable Children’s Books of 2008
- Jennifer Schuessler from the PaperCuts blog about books over at the New York Times totally stole my idea . . . or it's not remotely an original idea . . . The Top Ten Top-Ten Lists, hers are all lists of books.
- Time Magazine's top ten medical breakthroughs of the year.
- The Associated Press' Top Ten Quotes of 2008 as compiled by the editor of the Yale Book of Quotations. My personal fav: "All of them, any of them that have been in front of me over all these years." — Palin, responding to a request by CBS anchor Katie Couric to name the newspapers or magazines she reads, broadcast Oct. 1.
