Nothing says insanity like hosting an end-of-the-semester party before the semester has actually ended.
In order of popularity:
- Lamb Kabobs adapted from from Najmieh Batmanglij's book A Taste of Persia - These were a surprise run away hit. The lime and saffron marinade was amazing. I followed the suggestion in the preamble to the recipe to alternate little pieces of raw bacon with each lamb chunk as a substitute for lamb tail fat . . . a story sure to nauseate your vegan guests.
- Smoke Salmon Tartare and Potato Chip Canapes - I assembled about a dozen of these and, lacking a team of sous chefs, left the two toppings and chips in bowls for people to make their own. The parsley/scallions (subbed for chives)/cream cheese dip was quite popular all on its own.
- Bite-sized Latkes inspired by Melissa Clark's recent article Small Latkes, Large Toppings
- Bacon Cream Cheese Horseradish Dip adapted from James Villas' The Bacon Cookbook: More than 150 Recipes from Around the World for Everyone's Favorite Food - This is more of a spread than a dip. If you really want to use chips to scoop this stuff, thin it down with some cream or whatnot.
- Roasted Root Vegetables
- Homemade Applesauce
